An alternative education program focused on helping each learner re-engage with their education

With many young people increasingly disengaged, our program supports students, families, schools, and local authorities to encourage successful reintegration into the education system.

Empowering Young People Through Bespoke Education

More and more learners are being lost within education with no path to employment or independent income. A traditional education does not work for everyone and in many cases can be the barrier for people achieving their potential. We provide bespoke education programmes based on each individual’s requirements and aspirations that facilitate them to re-engage with their education at their own pace.

Through our virtual learning provisions we provide:

Learner flexibility

Pastoral care and support within an accepting and safe place

Accessible and motivating learning

Personalised learning programmes that are adapted as students re-engage with their education

Progress tracking to acknowledge, monitor and review student development

Strategic progression to re-engaging in education

Students who are out of education face a multitude of challenges, both in the immediacy and within their future. Our programme is strategically designed to guide students to regain competence in their learning and better relate to themselves, their context, their education and the wider world to re-engage with their learning and find a purposeful journey forward.

Students progress through our programme cycle to build their confidence and rediscover the value of their education. Through the continuous support provided by SAILs staff, students extend their learning beyond the virtual environment into an in-person education setting as and when they are ready. All this occurs flexibly as students increase their capacity and readiness for learning.

A flexible, personalised education programme

Young people can withdraw from education for a number of reasons; feeling anxious or fearful about attending school, present with challenging behaviour that go beyond the school’s resources and expertise, be disengaged with teachers, lessons and the environment. SAILs works in conjunction with all key stakeholders to develop an accessible and student-centred education programme to facilitate students along a journey to re-engage with their education and progress towards a successful future. Our bespoke programmes support our students to becomes more self-determined in their learning, aware of their strengths and how to harness these into a successful future.

Our programme is comprised of several phases which progress towards re-engagement with an in-person educational setting.

Our initial phases are focused on assessing the needs of the individual to ensure our coaching and learning services are appropriate for them; and facilitating their readiness for learning through coaching.

The curriculum is based around one of 2 options:

  1. Core Programme

  2. EBacc Programme

Each option occurs through an AI based curriculum which is supported by resources within a virtual learning environment. The programme cycle continues even after the student has completed their programme with SAILs to ensure longevity and consistency for each student.

Once students are succeeding within the virtual learning environment we support them to access in-person education services and review and evaluate progress made as well as key supports in moving the student forward on their journey.

A student-centred development process…

Our programme caters for students within statutory education who have disengaged or are unable to access their previous education setting for many reasons including:

  • challenging behaviours

  • traumatic brain injury

  • mental health challenges

  • neuro-developmental disorders

  • learning difficulties

  • disengagement in education

Students are facilitated to recognise their personal goals and aspirations, plan a pathway to succeeding and then supported to progress along their pathway.

Students we support

Challenging behaviour

We work with schools and students to provide an alternative education to exclusion.

Anxiety disorders

Our online provision facilitates students who are unable to attend their regular schooling due to a general or specific anxiety disorder.

School refusal

SAILs works with young people who refuse to attend school and their education provider to develop a programme to re-engage them with their education.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Some students may not be able to access a provision which is can adequately cater for their learning needs. SAILs works with students to develop a personalised education programme for students to progress in their education in consideration of their SEND.

Supporting young people through multiple channels

All individuals are different which means that progressing towards success is a different experience for everyone. We support students along their journey in a number of different ways depending on what they need.
